Hello! Is this cute device considered to be PlaysForSure enabled? If not, do you plan to release firmware to upgrade it to PFS status?

At 10:35 PM, Blogger ydkjman said...

Isn't PlaysForSure pretty much dealing with WMA type music / songs ?

I would like to see it. Can I go to a Wal-Mart and check it out or is it only online? I'm not a big fan of stock ear buds. Are there any other recomended headphones?

mikkael, that's what confuses me. I only started looking into mp3 players last weekend so I don't quite get it...

At 8:31 AM, Blogger bruh_jun said...

Does anybody know how the audio sounds?

At 12:47 PM, Blogger Team mobiBLU said...

donna and mikkael - The DAH-1500i supports "protected WMA" files and is compatible with many major music download sites. However, it is not "PlayForSure". PlayForSure is a Microsoft approval and is one requirement (along with another Microsoft standard called JANUS) for subscription based services. The DAH-1500i is not a JANUS compatible device and therefore is not compatiable with with subscription based services (but because it supports WMA DRM there are millions of tracks available out there from major sites where you purchase individual downloads, such as walmart.com's music download site).

This is a complex issue, and I hope we were able to add clarity to the subject.

bruh_jun - The product reviewers who have reported on the DAH-1500i have all been very positive with respect to audio quality. The litte Cube has SRS/Truebass sound enhancment, and for its size, people in the media are saying its as good or better than full size players offered from other companies. There is a good online review that talks about the audio quality here http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=681

Thank You!

At 1:21 PM, Blogger Donna said...

Thanks, Bob - does it work with "all" download services that support those file types? I sometimes jump around between Napster, Rhapsody, Walmart, etc. (all the official PlaysForSure stores). If it will work with all those stores (for downloads), then it's for me!

I understand now that it won't work with the subscriptions but I'm not sure that type of music access is right for me, anyway.

DAH-1500i SHOULD BE PlaysForSure compatible, read on...

As far as I know the DAH-1500i uses the Sigmatel STMP35xx family of System-On-Chip (SOC) mp3 solutions. I realized that when I first used the firmware update tool. In the "MP3 Update" tool the system chip is identified as "3500" and the program is written by Sigmatel so it's kinda obvious.

Now one can find more information about the STMP35xx family of chips online at:

By looking at the exact spevifications of the chips on the PDF document:

... and knowing already the feature set of DAH-1500i one can deduce that the actual chip used in the DAH-1500i is the STMP3506 (which supports mp3 encoding and USB2.0).

Now according this document:

... versions 3.x of the Sigmatel SDK for the STMP35xx family support PlaysForSure !!! This fact can also verified in this document:

So my big question now is this. Should we be waiting (in the next month or so) for a new firmware that supports PlaysForSure which means Napster2Go and Yahoo Unlimited or should I return my player to Walmart now?

odissman (and everyone else) - There is a good online VIDEO review of the DAH-1500i by CNET Networks where you can see the player and features demonstrated.

There are better headphones. I personally bought the SONY MDR-NX1 in white which are in-ear design with good bass responce but poor high frequency. I adjusted the user EQ accordingly by boosting the high frequencies. I have to say that now the DAH-1500i and the SONYs are a match made in heaven.

Let me note that the SONY's are the same design (wear as a neckless) as the stock mobiBLU and you can get them for cheap (I paid around $35)

At 1:35 PM, Blogger tzitziki2005 said...

I really wanted to post my comment about headphones directly under "odissimus" question but I can't.

You know why? Because blogging is NOT the way to provide a place for customers to exchange opinions. That's why forums exist. In the forum format a user can start a thread and other people can post replies or start sub-threads. Blogging sucks for user interaction.

Sorry for the upset tone but mobiBLU needs some catching up to do in the Web Site, customer support department ...

I'm kinda new to the "portable mp3 player" world: are MSNMusic downloads "PlaysForSure"? Any one can answer.

At 4:28 PM, Blogger Donna said...

Yes, bruh_jun, Microsoft is "in charge of" the PlaysForSure classification (devices and song download sites have to meet certain criteria/testing with Microsoft) so MSN Music is definitely one of them. There's a website at playsforsure.com which explains a little more (but not much).

At 7:15 PM, Blogger Omar said...

I only want to know when is the cube going to be on sale at the store, because i dont have an adress in the US?

At 10:38 PM, Blogger Team mobiBLU said...

Let me try to explain this as simply as possible. The DAH-1500i works with all music download sites that let you download individual songs. If you get these songs free, the files are usually in the MP3 or WMA format. If the site charges per download, then the file type is usually "protected" WMA, also known as WMA DRM. When you purchase a song from say, walmart.com music download site, it comes to you as a WMA DRM type file. AND YOU OWN THAT SONG FOREVER. You bought it...you own it! The DAH-1500i supports MP3, WMA, and (protected) WMA DRM.

The DAH-1500i is not compatible with SUBSCRIPTION BASED services, such as NapsterToGO, Yahoo, and Rhapsody. Subscription based services are where you pay a monthly fee for all the music you can download but you never own the music...you are actually leasing the music. The moment your subscription runs out or you stop payment, you lose all legal rights to the on your PC and your portable device, and everything is automatically enabled so that you can't play it anymore. Again, the DAH-1500i does not support subscription based services.

Is there a possibility for Chinese, Korean, and Japanese language menus in a future firmware release?

I thought it would come with them seeing as they already support filenames in those three languages. This is one of the most multilingual compatible players I've ever seen. :)

By the way, I'm finding the "clip" feature to be very annoying when I try to enable/disable HOLD. Will there be some way to disable it?

At 6:29 AM, Blogger tzitziki2005 said...

So it is clear that the cube DOES NOT support subscription services. But let me just state that the subscription model is a really cool! Access to online music through Yahoo or Napster is like paying for electricity or your cell phone. You pay $4.95 per month (Yahoo price) and you get music. You pay $39.95 and you get cellphone.

Yes when you don't pay your cellphone bill your celphone dies (like the songs get disabled) but that's the beauty of it.

Anyway I personally REALLY like the subscription services and what I would like to know is if we should be waiting for a firmware update that will support them. As I explained in previous detailed posting the Cube in theory SHOULD be able to support PlaysForSure so what's the story. Will we get it or not?

Would it be possible in the next version of the firmware to have a FASTER SCROLL SPEED? I find that even the fastest speed is kinda slow. Also (wish list) displaying MP3 Tags would be great too.

Keep up the great work!

At 11:54 PM, Blogger hira said...

I definitely agree with the faster scroll speed, ID3 tags, as well as being able to sort by filename/ID3 tags. Maybe it's just me, but it'd be nice that once the screen goes off, if the hold button is pressed as opposed to any other button to turn the screen back on, if it displayed the clock instead of only being able to see the clock if the music is paused.

Hi. I live in canada and bought the cube version DAH-1500s with firmware 1.34a . I can't upgrade the firmware using the same instructions as the 1500i. I have e-mailed support @mobiblu 5 or 6 times over the past month with no response. can some one PLEASE help me? I have also sent e-mails to them about the fact that they advertise the cube coming with a case when it doesn't. It appears that no one at mobiblu responds to e-mails.

Is there any chance of this player supporting AAC format audio? I keep all of my music in iTunes, using AAC because it's a very high quality/compact format (and I try to avoid proprietary formats like WMA). Of course, it all plays fine on the iPod and iRiver players, and on my cell phone, but this mobiBLU player has captured my imagination. It would be great to be able to play my music on it. And the thought of re-encoding all of music (several GB) is enough to keep me from buying this player.

At 10:41 PM, Blogger Greyseeker said...

What's with AAC people actually use it? What's wrong with MP3 - AAC is using a rotary phone. :)

I've ordered one from Walmart (as much as I dislike their corporate policies) and am having it delivered to my house in Palm Springs since they won't deliver here. I live in Canada most of the year. So, I will get it next time I go down.

I have had my mobiblu Dah-1500i for about two weeks. The sound quality is wonderful. The small buttons are hard to use at first but then they become second nature. they play mp3s and wma's really well. the only problem is that they cant read my napster Dmv protected wma's. maybe they will come out with a firmware that will fix that.

The dah1500i is a really great-looking mp3 player. I am interested in the red 1gb model but walmart.com is out of stock. Any comments on how long it takes to replenish stock, or if other online retailers will sell them in the future?

Hey there, I am new, but I know quite a bit about these mp3 players. You gies are saying that you would rather have i-pod's firmware on this DAH-1500i where as, Sony has something out called ATRAC3PLUS and you can fit 650 songs on the 1 gig. mp3 players. It is suppose to be C.D. quality. Mabye SONY and Mobiblu should team up and see what they can do. I know what you gies are talking about, I wrote them too, about a month ago and no responce. Everyone just has to give them a break, they didnt know that it was going to hit this fast. For the Canadian guy, what you could do it return that one, even sell it on e-bay and get an I version off of there. It isnt that hard. Well, I just hope that Mobiblu can get back on their feet and keep up with costumers...:)... Well, I will talk to you later,

At 9:48 PM, Blogger Maglione said...

Oh, by the way, I am just wondering when you gies think that you are going to come out with more accessories. I am extremely satisfied with my Mobiblu DAH-1500i. As others have posted here, since you need to use the proprietary USB-headphone jack cord to recharge the batteries, is there some adapter or method that you can use in order to recharge the unit if there is no computer around? Someone had mentioned the possibility of using a VersaCharger, or Zip-Linq AC Wall Plug to 5V USB Adapter, or perhaps even an AC-powered USB hub? Could you please let me know if any of these would work? Thanks!

4.shuffle WITHIN a folder
5.ability to delete a folder

At 9:08 PM, Blogger Magslione said...

Nico, as I had posted before, you might be able to go to e-bay and see what they have there. They probably have someone doing worldwide shipping on these things. Berish, you have GREAT ideas, I second those. Also, I am listening to my radio, mabye you gies could also make the radio somehow stronger. Instead of making all these things in one download, you might be able to make it to where the costumers could costumize what they want on a list. Make the list, let the costumers pick what they want, click ,"Done" (free of charge, we already bought it from you) and let us upgrade ours accordingly. Many people want many different things. We could keep writing in and tell what we want on our wonderful little gadjets. Any way, keep up the GREAT work and ttyl. Night,

anythingbutipod.com has dissected the mobiblue and showed us the possiblity of changing the battery. Is it possible to buy the rechargable battery either from walmart or mobiblu's site? Non-replaceable battery is the only reason stopping many people from getting a mobiblu. Even ipod batteries can be replaced manually (with some non trivial effort).

At 11:34 AM, Blogger HuckieP said...

It appears that an AC-powered USB hub can recharge the mobiBLU cube... There are plenty of mini-hubs out there that are small enough (and cheap!) that you could use instead of having to order their AC adapter!

When is mobiblu gonna give walmart some more 1gb reds? TIRED OF WAITING AND READY TO BUY!!!!

At 1:27 PM, Blogger Magslione said...

Your welcome. Omar, it might be a little more on e-bay but I am sure that it is worth it. In time though, the prices WILL go down on ebay because when it first came out, it was going for about 200-250 so it will be at a standstill for a while. It is only a few bucks more, if that. Any way, I know that that A.C. adapter might be for the DAH-1500 but the only difference between the two players is that the 1500 has 12 hours battery life. To the other question, I HAVE seen recharable batteries. All you might have to do is order one online for a few bucks and shipping. It shouldnt be to much. Disecting this mp3 player, I wouldnt imagine to be to hard. There is a screw on the bottom, take that screw out and get the buttons out of the way and it is taken apart. Great talking,

At 1:30 PM, Blogger Magslione said...

The reds should be in in a few hours or days, not to long. Keep an eye on it. I ordered it when it first came out and they kept running out, just a little while longer.

At 6:29 PM, Blogger Mo said...

I Just bought a 1500i, and love it- But I have a few questions. I would really like it if someone from Mobiblu would answer my questions.
1. There are times when my cube gets really really hot when its charging. It hasnt been charged for more than an hour and then it begins to heat up. I dont think the battery is fully charged yet, but it already begins to heat up.
2. Whats the difference between random and random all? Theres no way of only suffleing within a folder. . .
3. The MP3 player makes some werid clicks some times when I lsten to songs.
4. I really dont get how to use firmware. I download it, but I cant figure out to update it even follow the prompt that I got after unzipping the downloaded filefrom your website.
5. I have a lot of folders withing folders. And one thing that has anmoyed me is the fact that after finishing songs within a folder, it jumps and plays mp3's from a totally different folder. For example, I have 4 main folders. Lets say they're called folder 1 2 3 and 4. And folder 1 is pop and folder 3 is hip hop. And within those folders I have random mp3s and album folders. Still following me? I'll be listening to the last track of Jay-z's album, and then I get redirected into the pop section where it begins playing one of the random mp3s not in a folder.

And then I have some things that could help inprove the product via firmware. It would be really nice is the screen could flip upside down(and the buttons reverse) when your wearing the necklace. Its kinda hard to see what song your listening to, cuz you have to twist and turn, etc. But if you could just lift it straight up, it would be so much nicer.

Screen savers would give this product more ++++'s.

Accessorys that would be nice:
Arm band, docking station, color it- create your own cube covers, a better designed necklace/headphone, some way of listening while charging, screen protectors, AAA battery charger for emergency's. . .

The only bad thing that I dont like about this player is the battery life, too bad that cant really improve. Oh, and where do you get the finger straps? I need one, haha! Thanks MObi Blu

At 8:51 PM, Blogger Magslione said...

Well Mo, when you are charging the product, it is only natural for it to heat up like that. Just let it alone and let it charge and it will cool down after 3 hours of charging. Most batteries get hot when charging. Your question #3 is probably your downloaded songs, consider changing downloading sites or if you are writing C.D's to your computer then consider using a different program. I have ABSOLUTULY NO PROBLEM with the folders. The best thing that I can suggest to you is to cut down so many folders. It is unlimited, but the product isnt fully developed yet. What you can do is just make all the MAIN folders your BAND NAMES. Then it will just go from one folder to another in which ever order you have them in. Question #2, I have absolutuly no idea. Agian, I will second the making of your own cases for it, armband, more necklace earphones, and docking station. Speaking to Mobiblu, there is something out that can split left and right computer speakers, you could come out with something similar, but enable it to let you chargeing it in one port while listening in another. Mabye, make a AAA battery that could plug into one port, so no worries about running our of battery space and listen in another port. Thanks,

or the version 1500i can be fixed about the problems that we talk here with the upgrades of the website??

At 9:37 AM, Blogger skip said...

I bought the 512mb cube for use while running for exercise. I am concerned about the warning in its manual about avoiding moisture and direct sunlight. I realize electronic devices generally are better off dry and out of sunlight. But since a percentage of your buyers, like me, will want to wear it over sweaty clothes and in direct sunlight, would your development team consider a more robust casing for outdoor use? My thinking is to keep the cube shape but make it just a tiny bit larger, say an eighth inch, so that all buttons can be reset a 16th inch, to help prevent moisture from sweat from getting to electronic components. The casing could be made of something more durable to take some banging. Electonics inside could be padded against shock. I'm thinking of a heavy duty little cube for active buyers! Your thoughts mobiblu team? Please reach me at skip77@verizon.net Thanks!

I have napster downloads but they wont work with my player. It says it can play DRM protected information if its in wma format. Why wont these work?

At 8:22 PM, Blogger Magslione said...

All you gies have to do is find a converter, somthing that you can put your music in and convert files. I am sure that the books WILL work, but you will probably have to put them on a C.D. and then put the C.D. on your computer. I use a program called CDex version 1.51 which does an awsome job.(just google it) You can work your way around the whole PLAYFORSURE thing by putting it on the C.D. and writing the C.D. to your computer because it converts your files into mp3's. Same thing with music. I dont know, but you might just be able to download the CDex and put all your music, or books, in it and get it to mp3's but skip the disk. As for Nico, the cube is FULLY devoloped as of right now. What I was saying is that it can be a ton better then what it is now with more software, or firmware. Bruh_jun, they have an A.C. adapter for about $15 on their website. Skip, I dont think that you have much to worry about, I have had mine for about 2 or 3 weeks now and it has been exposed to moisture from my sweat and I see NO difference. Just keep it on the OUTSIDE of you clothes because if it is inside, you will have water in it. All I did is buy some earphones that ARENT necklace ones. Well, still waiting for Mobiblu, they are upgrading their site. They have been going slow but steady since they put the DAH-1500i up there. Just give them a month or so. Night,

I found out that Ipod shuffles can only charge 500 times then the battery dies. With Ipods once the battery is dead you cannot get a replacement. Does the mobiblu let us replace the battery when it dies? I dont want to replace my player after the battery dies. also I was wondering about the accessories for the player. where can we buy a finger strap? does it now come standard in the package?

Well, about the battery, yes, it is replaceable but YOU have to buy the rechargeable battery. It took mine about a week or two to ship. I have absolutuly no idea what is going on with the firmware, it will hopefully be out soon though. The only accessory that is avaliable right now is the wall charger which is about $15, they are upgrading their site as of right now and putting accessories like "fingerstraps" on it. The fingerstrap and the wall charger, etc. dont come in the pack, all that does is the usb data transferer/charger, silicone cover, and the earphones.(of course the mp3 player too) And to the last one, it is an invcredable little machine. As small as it is, it is still an eye catcher. It is VERY well built.

I have figured out how to get tracks downloaded from Walmart (WMA-DRM) to play on 1500i cube!

I had loaded about 50 mixed tracks from my pc, 11 or which were purchased/downloaded from Walmart online. Everything played but the Walmart tracks, no matter what I did. I have mp3 conversion software etc and tried everything to re-configure the tracks.. still they would not play - but I have good news and it has nothing to do with Geico!

http://www.mobibluamerica.com/faq_dah1500i.html Study the FAQ. MobiBlu has anticipated and solved this problem. Windows Media Player v9.0 needs one little box unchecked, that protects the tracks! You have to learn how to create new playlists in Media Player.. and how to copy your tracks to the MobiBlu 1500i cube via Media Player (all described in perfect detail at their link above) and guess what - it works!

All my Walmart tracks are playing now! There are so many ways to load tracks into the cube but if you are loading tracks purchased online, make the correction to your Windows Media Player and learn to load the music thru that software - and you will find that MobiBlu IS ON TOP of this and they have you covered!

My cube is BUSTING now... thanks MobiBlu!!! Awesome little machine!

Question for those who own the player.
Is the wheel on the side a "Ipod" style scroll wheel? Or do you literally have to press the buttons up or down?

I'm gonna head out to my local Wal-Mart this weekend and grab me a 1 gig blacky.

I purchased a mobiBLU DAH-1500i from walmart.com last month. I was able to change all the settings with the initial firmware package that the device came with. After I upgraded the firmware to version 100.100.105 i am having problems opening the settings. I am able to select SOUND SETTINGS, but when i try to go into any of the settings inside that it keeps coming out of the SOUNDS SETTINGS. I am not able to change any of the sound settings. Please let me know if it is a problem with the firmware or with my device alone? If so is it covered under warranty? Will it be replaced with a new device? Please Advice.

Hi I have 2 questions:

I purchased my 1500i from Walmart and have not upgraded my firmware. I have 2 questions:

1. My clock resets after I charge the player. Does anyone else have this problem? Does the current firmware on mobiblu's site fix this? I'm afraid of upgrading the firmware because some people reported having problems with it.

2. I would like to use my own earphones. Since the earphone also functions as antenna, will the reception vary based on which earphone I choose to use? Does the included earphone have the best reception?

At 1:13 AM, Blogger Andy said...

Hi I just found out the answers to my 2 questions above by searching on the web and updating my firmware.

1. Yes, the current firmware (100.100.105) on mobiblu's website does fix the clock resetting problem.

2. Some users said any earphone plugged into the mobiblu will act as an antenna. You will have to try out different earphones to determine which ones will give you better FM reception through trial and error.

Now I have 2 new questions:

1. When the battery runs out (this type of battery usually die after 500 charges), does Mobiblu provide service to exchange for new battery for a fee? Approximately how much will it cost?

2. Some users report that the mp3 player does not play files alphabetically and the updated firmware still does not fix that. When will this get fixed?

I think i figured out a way to charge the player and listen at the same time. I dont know if this works, so if someone out there has the time to try it and let us know, that'd be great.
1. turn the player on.
2. plug in a headphone splitter.
3. plug the charger into one jack and your headphones into the other.

I am assuming that it will charge even when on, and that you only need to turn it off in order to transfer files.

Also, what happened to the mobiblu team? where did they go? did something horrible happen? did they perhaps lose the URL? Is there a REAL forum out there for mobiblu users?

To Mychelle-

That's because your opperating systems are quite old. I have a 98SE computer for games, and it requires a special driver for any USB device I connect; that is to say, my PSP and Mobiblu.
I'm pretty sure it is the same with 2k.

Find someone who has XP (recommended) or find some drivers (doubtful).

My XP workhorse detects it right off the bat.

The Cube supports Chinese, Japanese and Korean. I still do not get how to upgrade firmware. Im not bad with computers, i think they just need to give better directions to people who havent ever upgrade firmware before.
I think that if you have Win 98, you need the divers on the CD that came with the cube. My Cube had a few gliches, but they seemed to have magically gone away (?!?!?!).
Ive finally figured out how to shuffle within a folder/ or a few folders. You have to select folders like how you would select songs for the playlist function. And then hold on to H for playist play. And then change the play norm to play random or random all.
For me everything seems to be working just GREAT! I do admit though, their customer service sucks. Im glad Im not having to many problems with my player. I also think the reason why people are having trouble with the Cube is that fact that the manual (atleast to me) is not all there. Like they don't tell you what random and random all is. And they dont tell you how to suffle in a folder.

*** I think there may be two versions of the 1500i's out(not hardware- maybe software). Cuz I have heard about people who have different screens when the cube is plugged into the USB cable. My screen says Ready, a computer Icon, a HS icon(dont know what this means), a USB icon, and a battery with a N (which changes when the cube is fully charged).

Thank you Daswami for your input. Unfortunately, all the pc's I have access to are 98se and win 2k which are both supposed to be supported platforms for this device. The download marked "driver" on the Mobiblu website contains the Win98 driver, or maybe I should say is supposed to contain it since clearly it doesn't work in my case. Unless you are suggesting that by updating the firmware via an XP machine is going to somehow cure my connectivity issues on my personal pc's (which if you are, then I am happy to try to find someone willing to let me load the Mobiblu software), then "finding someone with an XP machine" isn't going to help in the long run because I won't be able to change the songs on my player.

Where is Tech Support? It is incredibly frustrating to have spent so much money on this darned thing, waited "forever" for it to be delivered and not be able to use it even though the company says my multiple Operating Systems are all supported.

I am sorry if this sounds like a rant to you all, my ire is not directed at the customers here trying to aid me, but at the lack of company concern for its customers and specifically it's lack of response or any official information posted on the web on this issue.

The only problem i have experienced so far ni the couple days i have had it is the files seem to play at random within folders. They do not play in the order thet are listed.

The play mode is on normal, not random, this much I have already checked. I upgraded it to the firmware included on the CD. I have also gone through every other menu and setting looking for something else that would cause things to play at random. So far I have found nothing.

I know you are working on a forum for all of this. Hopefully there will be a FAQ there with answers to many of the questions people have asked here.

At any rate, I look forward to reading the forums, and hopefully getting this random play issue resolved.

Love my Cube (thanks to eBay as we cant get the 1500i in the UK). A few of things I have realised:

On Win98 - cube has to be plugged in before PC is turned on, otherwise it will not recognise it. Also, use a rear USB socket, not front or from a hub.

Battery life seems to be about 5 hours (could be because I keep fiddling with it?).

Cant work out the Random / Random All functions. I have 17 albums on the cube, each one in a different folder. Random functions seem to only focus on a couple of the folders, ignoring the rest, whereas I want to randomise the whole lot. What am I doing wrong?

I just got my pink Mobiblu 1500i in the mail today. I ordered it from Walmart.com, and it took only a week to get here. Even though I had seen many pictures of the unit online, I was still surprised to see how tiny it is in real life :o)

For such a small unit, the sound quality is excellent. I'm using the headphones that came with it, and I like them because they stay in my ears well and obviously help keep the unit in place. So far I've uploaded a few .mp3s to it and have had no problems with background noise or skipping.

The only disappointment so far is the radio. I can get one station to come in fairly well, which is great, but my favorite station has a /lot/ of background noise (probably because the station is far from here and it's hard to get a good signal).

Basically, so far I have had very good luck with this product and would highly recommend it to anyone who is considering buying one :o)

I can't wait for the forums to get up because I have a lot of ideas I'd like to share!

At 3:26 PM, Blogger Pico said...

Update on the radio:

It seems to work MUCH better if you hold the unit in your hand or press it against your body. My favorite station doesn't work so well when I'm in my basement (which was expected), but works fairly well when I'm standing still on the first level of my house or when I'm outside.

At 9:39 PM, Blogger Jared said...

I was having problems earlier getting files to play in the order they were supposed to.

It seems the alphabetical listing in the unit itself only goes so far into the filename before it stops. This was causing it not to sort the files in the proper order.

The format that all my files are named with is: 'artist' 'track #' 'song title'. It seemes when listing the files alphabetically, the unit never made it past the artist in the filename. This caused things to play out of order.

Will there be a firmware update that will allow the unit to seach further into the filenames whren listing them?

I just received mine yesterday. Besides the tiny size and COOL-factor, the main reason I chose the mobiBLU is that it works flawlessly with Linux and has great MP3 support. As I've posted previously, I'm having some serious problems with my cube. Likewise,Mobiblu seems to have serious problems with their customer support.

Anyway, here is a little warning if your cube stops functioning or starts acting weirdly. I caught Windows media player writing an xml file to my player. After that happened, my player went to never never land. I couldn't even turn the cube on. I was able to recover by connecting the cube to the computer while it was off, booting the computer and re-installing the new firmware. That erased whatever microsoft did to the cube and it is operating again.

I wish I had thought to copy down the name of the file that I found on the cube but I was having a nervous breakdown at the time.

And, Mobiblu folks, if you actually exist, Jason, are you there? I've tried deleting files from the cube on three different computers. I did it on three different machines to confirm the problem. If I try and delete the file from the cube while it is connected through the USB port, it freezes the whole computer and it's ctrl alt del time. Any idea what's up with that?

Hi - have worked our a way around the random / random all problems I have experienced and reported earlier.

1. If folders have similar starting names - eg "Pink" and "Pink Floyd", or "The Cult", "The Sisters...", "The..." etc, the cube in random mode seems to ignore all but one of the folders with the similar names. This is probably linked to the issue where the cube only reads so far into folder or file names. Ensuring the folder names all start differently has resolved the problem.

2. After downloading some additional files and folders, and continuing with random /random all - it seemed to get stuck just doing random tracks within an existing folder. Solved this by restarting random play from one of the new downloaded tracks. This seemed to reset the random function and its playing randomly across all folders and tracks.

Love my cube (and would also love the 1500i being sold in the UK at the equivalent of $129!!!!)

When is there going to be an update for the DAH-1500s??

Have the Canadians been lost in the shuffle?

Hey Team Mobiblu,
I was wondering, would the boxwave versacharger be compatible with my DAH-1500i or would I hae to stick to the charger on your website?

Does anyone notice that you can't get into the accessories section on the website? I can't get in to order any accessories. Please Help!!!!

Like the person above me, How do access the accessories page, what is going on I downloaded that .mcv thing BUT IT WONT WORK!

At 6:57 PM, Blogger Pico said...

The accessories page was working a week ago, which was when I last checked. The only items I remember from that page were a wall charger, USB cable, and a plastic protector for the unit (like the one that comes with the 1500i). There might have been headphones or something else, but nothing different or special.

I assume they're updating the accessories page now :o) Just be patient! If you want a car or wall charger, I suggest you go to Radioshack and bring your Mobiblu. The workers will be able to find the appropriate charger for it.

i am trying to get an extra set of earbuds for my DAH-1500i, my cat got some fun chewing them.

I am having a hard time with the mobiblu web page, and walmart only has the complete sets.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

At 4:03 PM, Blogger mobiblu said...

You can use any earbuds as they are just standard 3.5mm sizes. Do waste your money buying the crap OEM ones. Get yourself a nice set of earphones for around $20 and you will notice a big difference in sound usually.

My suggestions:

-Battery extension: 8 hours too short

-Faster navigation: some reviews reported a delay of 1 second for next song

-Protection: a stronger protection, for the screen too.

-recharge: standard charging plug. Not always will be a computer avaiable, i don't want to buy a USB charger just for this player.

Will the player's shell resist to fall?

At 10:22 AM, Blogger Pico said...

Eduardo: Just some thoughts!

I can see how the battery life can be annoying for some, but it's perfect for me because I only listen to about an hour of music a day. I can handle one recharge a week :o) For such a small unit, 8 hours seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I've never had problems with lag time between songs (I have a 1500i), but I agree with you about the protective cover. I'd like to see Mobiblu release some small cases or pouches that protect the screen better.

Once their accessories site comes back up there should be a wall charger available. Until then you can go to Radioshack and see if they sell something compatible with the Mobiblu cube.

Lastly, I doubt that the cube is very durable because there is a note in the instructions that says "don't drop the cube." I'm sure you could drop it onto carpet or a soft surface with no problems, but I can't imagine it surviving a long fall to concrete.

Anyone who e-mails Mobiblu for support please listen to this advice.

CALL THEM AT 1-888-283-2580

Mobiblu doesnt answer e-mails, doesnt read them and doesnt care. When you call make sure you tell them how fucked up it is when they treat their customers like that.

If you just got it from Walmart, return it right away to Walmart and get a new one or something else.

Cube enthusiasts, I just solved a problem that some of you might encounter. After working perfectly several weeks after recieving it, my cube started messing up. I would shut off and restart every time I hit the play button or any arrow buttons. I tried the reset button - didn't help. I ran Scan Disk and found one corrupt file (date changed) and fixed it - was able to play one song and then it messed up again. I looked at the FAQ at MobiBlu website and noticed the 3rd Question about what to do when a cube won't start or play. I wondered what would happen if I reinstalled my firmware update.. and having nothing to lose, I did it following the instructions at Question 3, minus holding the buttons in etc. Guess what? My cube is working perfectly again. My guess is that I may have messed up some files in my downloading manipulations. Now I'm golden!!!

I just got mine recently and filled it with songs right away. one thing i noticed is that even if you're on random mode, pressing the FF button brings up the next song on the list, not a random song. after a song plays, the next song is randomly selected. but if you press next, it's not random. I hope the next firmware would fix this.

I've had my Mobiblu cube for about 2 months now, and was quite happy with everything for the most part; however, starting from the past week or so, it's been shutting down all of a sudden (even after a recent recharge), and then I cannot even get it to start up without having to press the RESET button at the bottom. I updated the firmware with the newest one on their website last night (x.105), and thought everything was working all right--but this morning, I couldn't get it to power on again. Any help or suggestions would be tremendously appreciated!!

Another problem solved...

After 3 weeks wonderful use, when switching on the cube, it would not get past the startup screen with no buttons working. Had to use reset to switch it off. A couple of times it did work properly but problem kept happening.

Suspected a corrupted file as the screen had briefly flickered when pluging headphones in at same time as switching it on.

Reformatted and reinstalled some music with no success.

Then decided to try reinstalling firmware - all works fine now.

I'd like to know, why can't the Canadian version have a radio and all the other features that the American ones have? Why do they have to be different? I hate it when there's different versions for different countries.

The announcement on mobiBLU's website makes it seem like they are selling out of the 1500i. However, walmart.com has had it in stock for weeks now without problems.

Went to check out my local Walmart and they had a ton of these still in stock. Guy working at the counter said these were hot when they came out, but demand is pretty much dead now since the nano was released by apple.

He also commented that Walmart had been experiencing a high number of returns on the 1500i (about twice the usual rate of returns for defects), usuaully resulting in exchanges for new, working units of the 1500i.

mobiBLU has been around for a while and I hoped that with the 1500i they were going to finally break out of the cheap asia mp3 player mold. But, alas although they release a cool looking product their quality control and customer support are still stuck in cheapo mode. Thank god at least Walmart allows returns on the prodcuts, maybe they can even have a little chat with mobiBLU about customer service and product quality.

At 10:10 AM, Blogger x24 said...

as far as my problem, resetting fixed it. so far no problems yet, after about 2 days of use.

my e-mails to customer support was promptly answered, contrary to what people say. I guess my problem was unique. the rep i talked to suggested two ways to reset the unit, namely resetting it while it is unplugged to the PC, and while it is plugged. my fix was when it was unplugged.

Anyway, it seems like everything is due to a buggy firmware. turning the device on and off might be a reason why the firmware craps out occasionally. if so, then they really need to fix the firmware for their next (and hopefully soon) firmware version. mine came with 100.100.105 already so i don't know if my unit would survive without experiencing problems.

At 2:56 AM, Blogger Numero Uno said...

You guys need to do a forums like a PHP-BB, add a dropdown in the profile for which unit you own and also add some Avatars of your products and maybe some general ones. Then you should be good to go. Installing a forums doesn't really take that long only thing that takes longer is modifying the forum code like at http://www.phpbbhacks.com/ where you can figure out how to make it alot nicer looking. Id probably edit the top images (usually in the images folder) and do like a mobiblu logo on left or across top and then on right do Forums image and provide a link back to the main page.

Yesterday, after having not used my 1500i for a few days, it wouldn't turn on. I pressed the play button many times, but had no success, which was odd because the last time I had used it the battery was at least 2/3 charged. I decided to plug it into my computer in case the charge ran out, and the screen came on (much to my relief!).

I left it plugged in for a few minutes, then removed it and turned it on, and it worked. I would hate to have to return it, but the next time I have a problem I might; a defective product just isn't worth $140, no matter how cute it is.

I'm disappointed to see that so many people have had problems :o\ I was also hoping that a message board would be put up, but it seems as though Mobiblu has given up on this prospect. It's too bad that the 1500 series was unable to compete with the Nano; if it had simply been more stable (and the Mobiblu team more active) I'm sure it would have been more successful...

I've had the Cube for two days now, and I'm very impressed with it's features.

As far as negatives, the only one I can find is that the device cannot handle deep folder structures i.e. it can't support more than one or two subfolders.

I actually don't find the pause between songs to very long at all, actually.

The supplied headphones are pretty good with good bass response. They actually seem to be tuned more to highs and lows and lack some mid-range, but you can set the SRS eq. to compensate for that.

As far as WMA-drm support, just make sure you sink this type of file from the file management software for the service you use or Windows Media Player.

Awesome little Cube!

eegabooga: Don't expect people to answer you right away here (especially not within a span of 13 minutes...), since I doubt a lot of people actually read all of the posts. Indeed, your question has already been addressed in some of the earlier posts, particularly this one:

"Team mobiBLU said...

Again, the DAH-1500i does not support subscription based services."

Just tested MobiBLU's e-mail support again last week. Sent 5 different e-mails from 5 different addresses on different domains.

So far absolutely no response. They should at least have something auto respond. It wouldnt be that hard to setup.

I am surprised that they still have live people picking up the phone. Maybe its because they are still too small to get a ful support department up and they only answer calls rather than e-mails.
